Miguel Milá
Miguel Milá (Barcelona, 1931) began his professional career in 1950, in the architecture studio of his brother Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa. He created his own design studio eight years later and since then his career has become a reference in Catalan and Spanish design. His rationalism serves as the basis for the aesthetics of his objects with the simplification of forms and elements seeking maximum functionality. In his early years, Miguel followed Bauhaus rationalism, but always keeping in mind the degree of freedom, in response to his personal visions and the needs of the environment.
His work has been the subject of several anthological exhibitions, as part of "Primavera del Disseny" at Manbar (1995), the Year of Design 2004 at Palau Robert and, in 2007, in a show called "The wisdom of living", at the Blanquerna Institute in Madrid. Also in 2007 the FAD paid tribute to his career with "Cadena de Mestres". He was a professor at Elisava and Eina in Barcelona during the 60s and 70s. He has been a member of ADI FAD since 1961.
His design is endorsed by important awards such as National Industrial Design Award (1987), Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1993), Delta de Oro (1961, 63, 64, 64, 65, 68, 75 and 77), Delta de Oro special (1986), Delta de Plata (1952, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 95, 2003 and 2005), Good Industrial Design Award (1994), Compasso d' Oro, Internazionale (2008).
